Staff members for the Modern Foreign Languages Department
Languages are really important in the world we live in and give you great skills for the rest of your life. The internet has brought everyone much closer together so chatting, blogging and networking with people of different languages from all over the world is dead easy. Imagine all the other people you could communicate with and all the amazing places you could travel to or work at and all because you can speak their language. So log onto the world’s real social network and learn languages at GCSE! From www.whystudylanguages.ac.uk Curriculum:Year 7 All pupils learn French for five lessons each fortnight. Year 8 All pupils continue French and begin German, each for three lessons per fortnight. Year 9 Pupils opt for either French OR German OR Spanish, and study that language for four hours each fortnight. Years 10 & 11 Languages are not compulsory at Key Stage 4, but many pupils opt to continue their Year 9 language to GCSE. A modern language is part of the English Baccalaureate at GCSE and modern languages are regarded by the Russell Group of Universities as a 'facilitating' subject at A Level (see http://www.russellgroup.ac.uk/informed-choices). We use the new Edexcel GCSE specifications. Trips and Exchanges:Year 7 Day trip to Le Touquet, France in July. Year 8 Two-day trip to Aachen, Germany. Visit to a grammar school, and to the famous Christmas Market. Year 9-10 We have a long-running biennial Exchange with Gymnasium Albertinum, Coburg, Germany. Following several successful residential trips to the Loire, we are now planning an Exchange with our new partner school near Paris. |
