Introduction to the Department
Business Studies is a subject that prepares students for both future study or a career in a wide range of fields and as such we promote it strongly to our GCSE and A Level students. We usually have three full GCSE groups and these are based in a computer room giving students access to a wide range of resources. We aim to inspire our students by offering a course that is relevant to the world of work.
Key Stage 4
Here we study GCSE Business and Communications; this is a broad course with a strong practical ICT based element which leads to a Single Award at GCSE over two years. Students will gain a holistic understanding of business in a range of contexts (including a study of a small business through controlled assessment), through the development of a solid understanding of the modern business environment. We cover types of business and business activity, business organisation and external influences, legal aspects and many other topics.
Key Stage 5
A Level Business will further challenge students’ knowledge and skills, and students will develop a critical understanding of organisations and their ability to meet society’s needs and wants. We cover marketing and people, managing business activities, business decisions and strategy and business on a global scale.
