The Warriner School

Year 11 Leaving Arrangements

We are particularly pleased with the number of Year 11s that attended Easter Revision Classes and the response to the Easter Guided Revision set by their teachers.

The external exams will soon be upon us, with the first exam week starting on 16th May and the last exam on Thursday 23rd June.  As mentioned in the March newsletter, Year 11 students will attend school as normal throughout the exam season and follow their usual timetable to receive ongoing ‘Guided Revision’. The exams have been spread over a wider period this year which allows us more time to provide lessons and structured revision between exams.  When they have completed the last exam in a subject, they will still attend their lessons, but will be supported in revising for their remaining exams in other subjects.

To celebrate the end of the exams, we have decided to move the Year 11 Celebration Afternoon to 12pm on Thursday 23rd June. Students will have a fun afternoon reminiscing about their time at The Warriner School and collecting their Leavers’ Hoodies, with time provided for signing shirts. Year 11 are a wonderful year group and Mr Rafferty has organised a marvellous set of rewards for the Celebration Afternoon. Year 11 are currently gaining more House Achievement Points than any other year group! This is earning them ‘Passport to the Prom’ raffle tickets.  This is promising news as this is no time for low standards that could lead to underperformance. Year 11 in the Summer Term must:

  • Have an attendance for the Summer Term exceeding 97%
  • Arrive to school and lessons on time in the correct uniform
  • Bring the required equipment as if it was exam day
  • Enhance their lessons with enthusiasm and respect for everyone’s learning
  • Show pride in their work and complete Guided Revision activities with care
  • Act as role models to the rest of the school

At such an important time, any lowering of standards would risk their attendance at celebration events, especially the fabulous Year 11 Prom on Friday 1st July. Please note that the GCSE Results Day is Thursday 25th August and more details about the arrangements for this will be provided later.

We are very aware of the pressures on our young people during the exam season and this week the Oxford Health Team have delivered a second assembly on exam stress. They have detailed how to recognise the signs and suggested strategies to alleviate the problem. They are holding two workshops on 4th and 11th May in the Library for an hour straight after school. Please email e.james@warriner.oxon.sch.uk if you would like your child to attend one of the sessions. Please give their name and preferred date.

At this crucial time, please feel welcome to contact us if we can support further.
