Knowledge Organisers
Purpose
Knowledge organisers are documents that contain the core knowledge for teaching a curriculum component. Well-written knowledge organisers engage parents and students with curriculum content, and aim to allow every child to access the core knowledge they need to be successful.
Knowledge organisers have three purposes:
1. Planning tool: Set out all the core knowledge that students must learn to understand the component and address common misconceptions. They are also a key resource for making revision materials.
2. Assessment tool: They check for understanding so that students are learning what they need to learn.
3. Quizzing tool: Used for retrieval practice of the core knowledge essential to understanding the course. Recalling information is important in committing facts to long-term memory.
