The Warriner School

Travel and Tourism

Welcome to the Travel and Tourism Department

Curriculum Intent

At The Warriner School, Level 1/2 Travel and Tourism is designed to develop a secure understanding of the travel and tourism industry, both in the UK and globally. The course provides a clear, structured introduction to how the industry operates and the opportunities it offers.

Students begin by learning the fundamental structure of the industry, including different types of organisations, job roles and key sectors such as accommodation, transport and visitor attractions. They then build on this foundation by exploring customer service, marketing, destinations and the impact of tourism on people, places and the environment.

Our curriculum is carefully sequenced so that knowledge builds over time and key concepts are revisited. We prioritise:

  • Clear subject knowledge

  • Accurate industry vocabulary

  • Understanding how businesses work collaboratively

Students develop both “knowing that” (secure factual knowledge) and “knowing how” (applying knowledge in realistic contexts). Through analysing scenarios, solving problems and presenting ideas, we want them to begin to think and communicate like professionals in the industry.

The course also promotes:

Sense of wonder – Exploring global destinations and cultures to broaden horizons and develop cultural awareness.

Problem solving – Responding to realistic industry scenarios and challenges.

Interpersonal skills – Building communication, teamwork and presentation skills.

Intrapersonal skills – Developing independence, resilience and self-management.

By the end of the course, students leave with:

  • A understanding of the travel and tourism industry

  • Increased confidence and independence

  • Stronger employability and transferable skills

This reflects The Warriner School’s commitment to a knowledge-led, carefully planned curriculum that supports long-term success and social mobility.
